We are living in a condo generation. If you are in Metro Manila, it’s impossible that you haven’t noticed all the residential and commercial towers that make the Philippine skyline.
A condominium, or condo, is a type of real estate divided into several units, in separate, individual ownership. Owners of the individual units collectively own the common areas of the property such as but not limited to hallways and walkways. A condominium’s amenities and building exteriors are also jointly owned and maintained by a community association or frequently referred to as a “Homeowners Association.”
Vertical development condos continue to flourish and it is proved by the data stating that condominium units were the most common purchases in the NCR, with price increases going as high as 12.9%.
With all the developments here and there, can you still find a quiet place to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city? You deserve some peace, right?
The discussion on which is better: HOUSE or CONDO, is subject to debate. But for now, let’s dwell on why condo living may not be what you imagined.
SMALL SPACE
A condominium investment is a good thing. You get to enjoy a lot of amenities, live in a safe and secure community, and stay closer to your workplace. But let’s face it, you’re not going to be living in your Clubhouse, or your fabulous study area. At the end of the day, you’ll take your rest in your unit, or in your room. More often than not, you will have to settle with limited space availability. What’s the minimum size of a studio unit today? It’s honestly cramped and restricting.
NEIGHBORS
Some people find good friends with their neighbors. But it’s not the case for everyone. In a condominium, you literally live right next to one. It’s nice, but it can also be annoying, Noise problems are inevitable. Whether it’s a party that goes on until dawn, a birthday celebration, ongoing construction works, or a rock star trying to practice his piece, it could definitely disturb your much needed rest time.
MONTHLY FEES
Condo living is good, but the costs of living in it might be something you’re not prepared for. No matter the lifestyle, every unit owner must pay the monthly fees such as association dues, insurance, taxes, and utilities for the maintenance of the whole community. You’re not just there to mind your own business. You are active in sustaining the place, and sometimes it might get a little too much on your pocket. It is also advised to stay updated and attend meetings conducted by the officers of the Homeowners’ Association, to make sure you know what’s up and coming. A new project could mean extra costs!
STRICT RULES
In order to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the community, you have to abide by the strict rules. Some condominium projects don’t allow pets. Some don’t entertain outside guests ’til a certain hour. Some restrict young adults from partying too much in a celebration. Some don’t let you wash your car in the basement parking or even in the open area. There are a lot of rules! When you have your own house, you get a bigger chance that you get to make, and go by your own (responsible) actions.
Condo living in the busy city may sound so alluring, especially to those looking to build their lives. But retirees and expats opt for a private, and more serene place for a reason. A place that’s close to nature, quiet, and has an abundant open space is something that’s too dreamy.
